  THE CRITICAL FACTORS

He is the eldest son of Lamone Fosteir of Lyon, France and Joëlle Fosteir of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Vausteau Fosteir will find himself in a position that was foretold many centuries earlier; a position that will enable him to stand in defiance to the Anatahn Military Alliance and the Rigis Coalition. Thus, Vausteau will make the one decision that will greatly affect the final outcome of this intergalactic conflict.

As indicated earlier, two important factors will determine how Vausteau makes this decision. The first factor is his bitter relationship with his step siblings; Laura, James and Kevin, the children of Joëlle’s first marriage to Gerald Davidson. Even as they are loath to seek help from their step siblings, Vausteau and Xavier must come to a hard realization. They will need the help of the Davidsons to accomplish the difficult task of saving the lives of millions of their fellow humans. Can this family feud ever be settled?

Enter Karen Dawson. Originally of Bangor, Maine, she is the thirty-something woman who can most likely resolve this feud. An intrepid investigative reporter and Vausteau’s sweetheart, Karen uses her investigative expertise to get to the bottom of the situation regarding Joëlle’s death, a tragic event that left emotions running high and questions unanswered.

Her heated divorce from Joseph Dawson has not dampened her desire to help resolve this feud. She understands that one of the most effective ways to end a long-standing family feud is for siblings to come together, and resolve their differences in the spirit of genuine forgiveness. Despite the risks, Karen feels that she is the one to be the proverbial olive branch, essentially an arbitrator. Of course, the fact that Vausteau is on another planet makes this situation even more difficult to resolve.

Genealogy is the second and most significant factor as it involves one of Vausteau’s direct ancestors, an individual who had lived 284 years earlier. Counting back from 2258, we come to the year 1974. With the aid of sophisticated technology that he had obtained from visiting aliens, this individual had devised a way to send Vausteau critical information regarding the very situation that is presently facing Vausteau.

The method the individual used to send his mid-23rd century descendant a relevant message was highly controversial; fraught with technical and genealogical challenges, and had taken several years to implement. As such, a complete understanding as to how this individual along with specific past events became critical to Vausteau’s present role requires that we return to the beginning of this story. Thus, a 400-year Journey into the Cosmos begins.
